Recovery Ministry

The Recovery Ministry is a Proven Program for Life Controlling Behaviors.
Directed by Tim & Pam McCloskey

Life controlling behaviors take us in a cycle that leads to insanity.

Take a workaholic with a low self-esteem as an example. Because of his low self-esteem he begins to work long hours, staying late. That is the life controlling agent. He is praised for his work, he is feeling successful which feeds his ego and that gives him some relief. However, family relationships and his personal relationship with God suffers terribly because he is so preoccupied with work which is a negative consequence. The result is an even greater sense of shame and guilt because of his inadequacies, both real and imagined, which brings him right back to where it all started, pain. Now the workaholic feels compelled to work even harder to overcome his guilt.

There are so many who live in confusion and turmoil with no hope of anything better and yet for most it will take hitting bottom and being sick and tired of their circumstances that will bring them to a point of wanting something different. Truly a dark and frustrating place to be. However they do not have to stay a prisoner in that darkness. Through the blood of Christ and the mercy God provides, there is healing. Most people stay in their dysfunctional circumstances because they don't know how to do anything different. That is where The Recovery Ministry can help

We have the honor of spending quality time with each person looking at what behaviors are not healthy, discovering where the root of the problem lies and how to become free from them. Through individual sessions we teach people to get rid of tools that do not work and to learn how to use new tools that are much more effective. We teach people how to respond to life’s circumstances and not just react.

It is common to have both husbands and wives come into the Recovery group and because of that we are providing one meeting room for the men and one for the women to allow a safe place for each to feel free to express themselves. Some topics that we discuss are: Abuse, Boundaries, Depression, Alcohol, Drugs, Perfectionism, Confrontation, Rejection, Anger to name a few as well as the 12 Steps.

Group meetings are held Monday evenings 7:00 at 514 South 7th Street Altoona

This is a Free Service for Central Pennsylvania. We run on donations alone. If you would like to make a donation, it would be greatly appreciated. Let others in the Lord's Church where you meet know of this ministry and how they can help take the message of hope to a corrupted world.
